Virtual KIdnapping:Our Defence To Fight It

An unfortunate reality is the rise of kidnappings in Africa, particularly in Nigeria. But today’s criminals are getting even more sophisticated by exploiting technology and engaging in “virtual kidnapping.” Unlike traditional abductions, virtual kidnappers have not actually kidnapped anyone. Instead, through deceptions and threats, they coerce victims to pay a quick ransom before the scheme falls apart,”.

Many people's fear has been exploited by these kidnappers after they are being told that their loved one has been abducted by these criminals and are asked to pay huge sum of money. A recent attacked happened to a family in Ondo state last week . They were told that their daughter who they sent to school in Lagos has been taken by them. After several attempts to reach their daughter they gave in to the demands of the kidnappers  and began to gather money to release their daughter and get her home safely. After they had transferred the money they get a call from their only to realise that her phone was on Do Not Disturb and that's why they could not reach her.

The telltale sign of distraught morphed on a woman's face after she received a phone call last week from a native doctor that her daughter's boyfriend submitted her child's picture to him to use for ritual . The woman was scared and begged  for her daughter's life and he requested for money which she sent to him. After all this she later found out that it was all a lie

" The government are not paying serious attention to this issue as cases keep increasing everyday and more people are getting scammed ", she said
